The
Mid-State Conference flexed its muscles in the first round of sectional action.
Six of the seven teams saw action in the opening round and the league went 5-1.
More impressively, the lone loss came in a game between two Mid-State schools.
Against non-conference opposition, the Mid-State went 4-0 this week.
Two of the
victories came in hard fought fashion at high profile sectionals. Decatur
Central advanced at Pike to a second round date with the hosts by downing
Indianapolis Tech 58-54. At Center Grove, Whiteland pulled a mild upset by
beating Southport 43-40. That win set up an all Mid-State semi-final between
the Warriors and Franklin. The Grizzly Cubs downed Greenwood in a nailbiter
Wednesday night, 50-49.
The other
two victories for conference teams came at Terre Haute, the sectional where the
favorite never wins. Mooresville moved into the second round with an always
satisfying win over a MIC school. The Pioneers downed Terre Haute North 61-47.
Plainfield demolished Northview 68-39. The Quakers now get the challenge of facing
18-4 Terre Haute South in the second round. Mooresville will face the last
Mid-State team to enter the tournament fray, Martinsville.
